Today is the first Sunday of August. The occurring scripture for Matins (first and second lessons) is taken from the first Sunday of August in the monthly cycle (Proverbs). What remained from the books of Kings is left off. The daily lessons will continue to be from the monthly cycle until the end of November. The third lesson for Sundays (homily on the Gospel), the collect, and the antiphons for the Benedictus and Magnificat, are as given for the assigned Sunday after Pentecost in the listing of Sundays placed after November. The Magnificat antiphon for I Vespers of Sundays, however, is listed with the occurring scripture in the monthly cycle, as it makes reference to the theme of the same.
