Why does the Feast of the Immaculate Conception outrank the Advent Sunday?
The rubric is from Rubricae Generales n. 91 which gives the Feast of the Immaculate Conception a higher rank (4) than the Advent Sunday (6). When one liturgical day outranks another, then it is a question of “occurrence” (in this case accidental occurrence), described in the rubrics under nos. 92-102.
Is the Sunday Mass transferred to Monday or resumed then?
No, because Sundays don’t transfer and are not “resumed” anymore according to the 1962 rubrics, which on this point continue the legislation of the General Decree of March 23, 1955. Only feasts of the 1st class have the right of transference (n. 95). The Advent Sunday is still given due honor, however, because it is commemorated in all Masses and in the Office of the Immaculate Conception.
